Speciale Filipijnse landbouwproducten op Nederlandse markt
Om bijzondere, lekkere en gezonde landbouwproducten uit de Filipijnen op de Nederlandse markt te brengen richtten John van de Winkel en Ferry Terpelle twee jaar geleden de stichting LOOP op. Denk daarbij aan biologische rode en zwarte rijst, biologische mascobado rietsuiker en kokosbloesemsuiker. Door eerlijke prijzen voor de producten aan de boeren te betalen willen ze bovendien een steentje bijdragen aan armoedebestrijding. Het mes snijdt dus aan twee kanten. Hieronder vertelt John van de Winkel hoe van het één het ander kwam.

Als Filipijnse vrouw je mannetje staan in een mannencultuur
De Filipijnen waren in de 20e eeuw niet het meest vrouwvriendelijke land op aarde. Mercy Abenio ondervond dat aan den lijve. Als feministische vrouw die geen 'nee' accepteerde, was zij in haar dorp een voorloper op het gebied van vrouwenrechten. Toch realiseerde ze zich pas in Nederland hoe vrouwonvriendelijk haar vaderland was.

Op stage in de Filipijnen
Afgelopen oktober gingen drie studenten van de studierichting sociaal en maatschappelijk werk van de Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen voor hun stage naar de Filipijnen. Het bleek een leerzame en boeiende ervaring waarbij de confrontatie met moeilijke en schokkende situaties niet ontbrak. Hieronder hun verhaal.

Stichting Anak Filippijnen
De Nederlander is sceptisch wanneer het om ontwikkelingshulp gaat. Zeker als het gaat om particuliere, kleinschalige 'projectjes'. Immers deze zouden slechts een druppel op de bekende gloeiende plaat zijn. De Stichting Anak Filippijnen is een particulier initiatief, kleinschalig, maar met een groot rendement. Door middel van een reis naar de Filipijnen wil zij de Nederlander laten zien dat deze vorm van ontwikkelingshulp wel degelijk zin heeft.

Journalistiekstudenten ontdekken ook het mooie van de Filipijnen
Journalist zijn in de Filipijnen is linke soep: het land staat op de derde plaats van gevaarlijkste plekken voor journalisten. Vorig jaar kwamen er nog ruim twintig om tijdens een massamoord. Toch vertrekken zes journalistiekstudenten eind oktober naar de eilandengroep om verhalen te maken voor hun afstudeerproject. "Ach, je kunt overal een gek met een pistool tegenkomen."
